Supporting Our Communities
With a management team of keen sports fans, we support a number of local teams.
CGM are shirt sponsors for Northwold Men’s Football Team and support local youth football in West Norfolk by providing free grounds maintenance for Downham Market Town Youth Football Team. We also advertise within the Norwich City Football Club programme for FONCY (Friends of Norwich City Youth). All advertising revenue is donated towards the Norwich City Youth Team's funding.
We also sponsor the Memorial Trophy Race at Mildenhall.
At Downham Market Recreation Ground, Pelican’s Hockey Club and West Norfolk Rugby Club, we have donated and installed memorial notice boards.
CGM are proud to be associated with Downham Cricket Club through our sports pitch maintenance service and pleased to sponsor this fantastic local cricketing institution. We wish all the teams within the club every success for the forthcoming season and will work hard to provide a first class wicket for them.
Our business relies on the team work of all of our employees from all divisions and departments; and by getting involved in community sport, especially for young people, we believe we are helping to develop this in our own area to the benefit of all society.
At CGM, we take great pride in playing an active role in supporting the communities in which we work. This includes both the communities in the local area of each of our three branches – Norwich, Cambridge and King’s Lynn – and the communities surrounding each of our projects. We provide employment opportunities for our local community, including six school leaver apprentices who are currently supported to study for their NVQ Level 2 in horticulture while they gain practical training on CGM projects.
At the very least, we strive to minimise the impact of our projects upon the local community, evidenced in our membership of the Considerate Constructors scheme. In as many settings as possible, our commitment to local communities goes much further, and we take an active role in a wide range of community projects by sharing our skills and expertise, or by making financial contributions. We believe in equality, and feel that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy their natural environment. We regularly donate plants and trees to client sites in deprived areas to enhance their surroundings, which in turn improves the quality of life for residents.

CGM support the Downham Market in Bloom entry by maintaining a roundabout on the A10 Downham bypass that intersects with the A1122 to Wisbech. CGM designed and planted the roundabout and make frequent visits to ensure it looks at its best all year round.
Following the sad loss of her husband, Alec, Mrs Emeny decided to make a donation for roses to be planted in his memory at Kings House Garden, Thetford. In total, 15 English lavenders and 33 roses were planted including 6 additional roses kindly donated by rose supplier, David Austin Roses. Mrs Emeny selected a mixture of floribunda and bush roses in ten different varieties. The roses were chosen in 7 different colours, planted in groups of 3, with the focal point of the scheme made up of a variety called Alec’s Red, in honour of Mr Emeny’s favourite colour.
The Kings House Garden is held in trust for the people of Thetford and is managed by the Stanniforth Trust. CGM have been maintaining this garden for three years, and carried out all of the works on the rose bed free of charge.
The new rose bed (left) and (right) Mrs Emeny is presented with a donated rose called "Blessing" from David Austin Roses.

Housing 21
Harry Scott Court, Cambridge
Location:
Harry Scott Court is a purpose-built sheltered housing scheme in Cambridge which is managed by
Housing 21. The development is for residents over the age of 55. As landscape gardeners for the site, CGM was only too happy to provide plants and labour in support of the resident's garden improvements plan. Housing 21 donated money for plants which CGM match funded. Our gardening team which includes David, Olly and Mark (regional manager for our Cambridge branch) attended the site on 28th March 2011 and planted 60 Vincas free of charge.
CGM and Housing 21 have been working together successfully in partnership for the past 3 years.
All residents in housing association properties where we work benefit from a 10% discount on purchases from our sister store, Downham Country Garden Store, along with free delivery. For vulnerable members of the community, such as elderly people, this service is very highly regarded, perhaps enabling them to plant a few pots or a hanging basket on their doorstep, while we concentrate on managing their gardens and grounds on behalf of the housing association.
Our long working relationship with Freebridge Housing Association includes a donation of Christmas trees to 20 Freebridge sheltered houses, and we also judge their Christmas tree decorating competition, donating prizes for the best tree. In a Freebridge grouped homes site, we adjudicate over their annual gardening competition, donating prizes for the best display.
CGM and the Environment Agency carried out a project in Autumn 2009 for Freebridge Housing.
The project at Waterside in Kings Lynn included pond improvements, planting and siting of a
bench. CGM and the EA cleared and improved the pond area, enhancing the outlook of area.
Teams cut back vegetation, the pond was dredged and the banks were improved ready for planting.
CGM also donated plants for a flower bed that was created around a bench that was sited for
residents to enjoy their improved outlook.
Freebridge volunteers helped paint the fence and tidy the area. CGM have been working in partnership with Freebridge Housing Association since 1989.

Housing 21
Edwin Vincent Court
Location:
Following our recent instruction to carry out routine garden maintenance at Edwin Vincent Court on behalf of the residents, we were pleased to donate and plant a number of shrubs and to revamp the enclosed courtyard garden.
The sheltered housing scheme is part of the Housing 21 housing association group. We currently
manage 13 sites for the association across the eastern region. Members of CGM Norwich team attended the site to carry out the works and will visit the site fortnightly for the next three years.
We would also like to thank Bettaland Products Ltd on behalf of the Stanniforth Trust for donating shrubs for us to plant within the Kings House Gardens.
The donation has gone a long way to help replenish the stock of flowing shrubs within the formal gardens.
A big thank you to Chris and all the team at Q Lawns for their kind donation of turf for the Kings House Garden in Thetford. We are sure that the visitors to the forthcoming open garden event will appreciate the kind gesture and see the improvement that has been made to the garden. If anybody would like to sponsor a bed at this fantastic public garden we’d be pleased to hear from you. For more information about Q Lawns please visit www.qlawns.co.uk
