The garden design by CGM incorporated timber raised beds, level access, pergolas, lighting, non-slip paving, central water features and planting. The project brief was to create two sensory gardens for the elderly tenants to enjoy - all five senses are stimulated within these gardens. Before works began, one courtyard contained a sea of pebbles; the other a boring patch of grass. Over seven weeks, 60 tons of topsoil and pebbles were removed by crane and under the watchful eye of the residents the two garden areas were transformed into a vibrant and user-friendly environment.
The tenants officially named the garden ‘Tranquility’, and at the official opening in August 2010, the Mayor of Downham Market, John Fox, said: “It’s wonderful to have such a great open space for all of the residents to enjoy and I truly hope it is a place of tranquility for you all for many years to come”.
