Invasive Plant Species
Traditionally gardeners have simply seen weeds as plants that are sited in the wrong place. However, invasive plant species can create a number of legal issues for landowners irrespective of whether they are reportable or notifiable to DEFRA or not.
Whilst the associated problems and symptoms of invasive plant species are widely understood, current legislation is not, and to that end we are able to advise clients of their obligations relating to private nuisance under common law, The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and The Environmental Protection Act (EPA) 1990.
In addition to our consultancy service, we have also developed strategies to combat the spread and eradication of land and water based invasive plants such as Japanese knotweed, water fern, New Zealand pigmy weed, giant hogweed, saw thistle, ragwort and floating pennywort.
Our horticultural teams are fully trained in all relevant legislation and only use chemicals approved by DEFRA and Natural England to ensure the delivery of a satisfactory weed control programme.
To support our teams we have an extensive range of specialist mechanised equipment that will deliver faster and more cost-effective solutions to your needs whatever the scale of the problem.

Environment Agency
North Cambridgeshire and Suffolk (Ipswich and Stowmarket)
CGM has an established working relationship with the Environment Agency working on projects predominantly on the river systems within Cambridgeshire. We provide the man power, equipment and the expertise to help manage and clear numerous water-borne weeds that cause problems, through competition, with native plants and animal species which can also block and clog up lock gates.
Japanese knotweed was becoming prevalent in Suffolk especially in the Ipswich area and we have been assisting them with its management since 2006.
We also offer these specialist services on land to a number of hospitality businesses including one regional pub and restaurant chain.
