Maintenance of Public Spaces
CGM had been maintaining cemeteries and grave yards for parish councils since it was established some 25 years ago and we are now extremely proud of the work that we carry out at a number of war memorials spread across the eastern region.
Our qualified and trained maintenance teams now specialise in all aspects of grounds maintenance including the management of high profile ornamental parks, country parks, public gardens and tourist attractions which, in some cases, are open 365 days a year.
It is fair to say that it has given us a real opportunity not just to showcase the quality of our work but to also make a real contribution to the local communities that we work within.
We are happy to work to pre agreed maintenance specifications, provide regular inspection reports and are happy to liaise with clients to review our working practices, to offer help, advice and development strategies to assist in future planning and cost management.
Our CRB checked trained landscape operatives are qualified to RHS, NVQ or NPTC levels, have the required CSCS health and safety certification and carry out all works according to the dictates of good horticultural practise, the requirements of the site and the plant species within the site.
For further information about landscape maintenance in public spaces please contact Ian Burton.

Public park regeneration project to install new play equipment, tress and pathways.
In Spring 2010, the CGM team completed the transformation of a former landfill site on the outskirts of Ely for East Cambridgeshire District Council. Once used only by dog walkers, Pocket Park is now an attractive open space which will benefit the local community, especially the younger generation who can enjoy a 12ft high slide, swings and a zip wire, all tried and tested by our Landscape Manager Tom Tree (for safety checks, of course!)
A major challenge during construction was the fact that the landfill was just 6" under the surface in places, which meant adapting our planting plan accordingly, and ensuring that all excavated landfill was removed before the Park was opened.
An ultra-modern new maze was planted using Miscanthus and Calamagrostis grasses rather than traditional Laurel or Yew, turfed mounds were created for play equipment to rest on, and 50 new specimen trees were planted (including the flowering Amelanchier lamarkii, pictured). All of this is accessed by a new 750ft coloured Tarmac pathway, which attracted huge numbers of young cyclists from Day One.
