CGM Ltd carries out a full service for the Environment Agency cutting and clearing river banks and
waterways. Our trained and qualified staff use modern equipment including our own pontoon boats
and tracked woodchippers to carry out the felling and removal of adjacent and overhanging small
trees and shrubs. Without careful management this vegetation may block the route for navigation or
create natural dams in these flood drains which are vital for the stability of the Wash Region.
Then our fleet of tractors equipped with side arm and front flail mowers cut the minor vegetation and weeds down on an annual cycle to clear the waterway. Where steep banks or difficult access points are present the remote controlled robot cutting device is used to ensure our operatives are not put at risk whilst completing the required works efficiently.
Using chemicals approved for use near water our trained staff can also spot treat perennial weeds without endangering the river's natural inhabitants.
Finally our landscaping operatives can erect new stock fencing to prevent access to the water’s edge where required and have also installed fishing and mooring platforms into the river banks.
All the above operations are carried out with safety and the environment at the forefront, specific risk assessments are carried out to identify potential bird nests and bat roosts and work is programmed seasonally to minimise the impact on the environment.

Waterways & Countryside Management
CGM provides a full riverbank maintenance service for our clients which includes bank cutting with tractor mounted flails and a remotely operated cutting machine for inaccessible or potentially hazardous areas allowing work to be carried out safely and efficiently.
Many of our operatives hold the RYA Certificate in boat handling and we maintain and operate our own working boats as well as utilising our clients’ machinery where necessary to carry out reed bed management and clearing of waterways across Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
Working in association with conservation authorities, private landowners and public sectors bodies, we can help you to oversee the care of rivers, streams, lakes and ponds, including maintenance of the banks and adjacent habitats.
Effective waterways management includes the careful application of approved herbicides by our NPTC qualified operatives to plants and weeds adjacent to watercourses to maintain biodiversity of desirable plants by removing invasive species.
In many areas, our countryside management brief extends to conservation work, and we always endeavour to work in harmony with the natural surroundings following our wildlife and ecology policy.
We may be asked to remove saplings to encourage the establishment of new woodland or to set up wildflower habitats and planting of new hedgerows along with maintenance of existing hedges through regular cutting.
Our excellent understanding of farming means we are well placed to help farmers and land owners to meet their obligations under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.
We are regularly contracted by clients to carry out trimming of hedges and roadside verges or to clear footpaths to maintain public access routes and highway visibility.
